CHANEL

Inspired by military uniform and men’s wear, the sophisticated elegance, simplicity and straight cuts are the keynotes of the Chanel Jacket. The Jacket, made popular flat chested fashions contrary to the hour glass figures that were quickly becoming out of date thanks to the house of Chanel. Chanel’s philosophy of absolute freedom of movement is plainly seen in the loose, straight cut design of the jacket. It is without a doubt an icon and a cornerstone of modern fashion.

LOUIS VUITTON

The unmistakable LV monogram is a genius amalgamation of French craftsmanship and Japanese oriental style that features quatre foils, flowers and LV letters. The canvas of gold monograms on a brown background is the classic design.

In 2003, LV’s collaboration with Takashi Murakami, a well known Japanese artist, led to a new, unique multicolor monogram for handbags and accessories of 33 different colours on either white or black. Further audacity in design by Louis Vuitton birthed bold variations of graffiti written over the monograms pattern, created for limited edition pieces.

HERMÈS

Jane Birkin, the icon, from whom the legendary Birkin bag is named after was one day in a plane seated next to Dumas, the chief executive officer of Hermes at the time. Accidentally, Jane dropped the contents of her bag in the plane, sparking a conversation between the two about Jane’s desire for a bag that would allow her the luxury of carrying all her things. This rather odd moment was the inspiration for an icon that has become a status symbol of wealth which has stood the test of time.
Known to be handmade by one craftsperson, the Birkin bag can take up to three days to be completed, thereby increasing its appeal to customers who loyally wait for many months to receive their pre-ordered bag.

CHANEL

In 1927, the perfumery world is revolutionized by one iconic woman, one, Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel – a French couturier who captured the essence of femininity and bottled it. It all started when she called upon Ernest Beaux, a Russian and French perfumer, to create an eternal, feminine fragrance – one that was composed of the chemistry of ingredients such as jasmine, sandalwood, Brazilian Tonka beans, to create a scent that would stand out from the single flower fragrances of her time.

LOUIS VUITTON

With travel goods at the core of its beginning, a determined Louis Vuitton at age 16 having arrived in Paris on foot, became a trunk maker and later established the Louis Vuitton brand with its flat bottom trunks, made with Trianon canvas rather than leather. In 1886 Louis Vuitton pioneered an unpickable locking system onto the trunks which was revolutionary at the time and this proprietary idea distinguished the Louis Vuitton brand of trunks and travel bags.
